About this trip
Mtirala National Park covers the hills behind Chakvi, a short drive north of Batumi. It is Colchic rainforest — dense, green and subtropical — and one of the wettest places in Georgia, which is where the name, ‘the weeping one’, comes from.
The road ends at the visitor centre in Chakvistavi, where the marked trails start. The walk to the waterfall is the usual choice; ask at the centre which routes are open and how long they take that day.
It is an easy outing, about an hour and a half of driving in total. Wear shoes with good grip and bring rain gear even if Batumi is dry when you leave — the paths are often wet and muddy.
