About this trip
Bakuriani sits at about 1,700 metres in the hills above Borjomi. It is the gentler of Georgia's ski resorts, with slopes that suit families and beginners, and in summer it is a pleasant place for walks in the forest.
The route goes through Borjomi, then climbs through forest to the resort. A narrow-gauge railway, known as the Kukushka, also links Borjomi and Bakuriani, but check whether it is running on your date before planning around it.
It is a long day, around five and a half hours of driving. In season the car runs on winter tyres. Ski passes and equipment hire are paid separately, on the spot.
