About this trip
The Truso valley opens off the Georgian Military Highway near Kobi, beyond the Jvari Pass. It is wide, green and almost empty, with the Terek river running through it. Along the way there are mineral springs bubbling out of the ground, pale travertine formations built up by the water, and abandoned stone villages. Toward the end stands the ruin of Zakagori fortress. The valley road is an unpaved track; we send a car suited to it, and if you prefer, part of it can be walked while the driver waits or meets you further on. The best time is late spring to autumn. Around four and a half hours of driving in total, plus however long you spend on foot.
