About this trip
Tusheti is reached by a single road over the Abano pass at about 2,850 metres, one of the most dramatic drives in the Caucasus: a narrow unpaved track above long drops. It is open only roughly June to October. A driver with real mountain experience is essential, we match the car to the road, and the drive in takes most of the first day. Day two is for the villages. The Keselo towers stand above Omalo, and Dartlo is a stone village of towers and slate roofs. Try guda, the local sheep's cheese. Day three is the drive back out, which again takes most of the day. Guesthouses are not included; you book and pay for them yourself. Weather can close the pass at short notice.
