Day trips from Tbilisi

Day trips from Tbilisi reach many of Georgia's best-known places, so you can keep the same hotel and be back each evening. With a private driver the day runs at your pace: you set off when you're ready, the driver waits at every stop, and you're dropped back at your door.

The closest is Mtskheta, the old capital, with Jvari Monastery above the meeting of two rivers: an easy half day. Further out are the rock-cut town of Uplistsikhe and Gori, the cave monastery of David Gareja on the edge of the steppe, and the wine country of Kakheti. To the north, the Georgian Military Highway climbs past Ananuri to Kazbegi and Gergeti church under Mount Kazbek, or into the Truso valley. To the west, Borjomi and the cave city of Vardzia make one long day.

Each season has its trips: Kakheti at the grape harvest in September and October, Kazbegi and the mountain valleys in summer, a ski day at Gudauri or Bakuriani in winter. Mountain days start early.

Every tour has a fixed route, and the price is per car, not per person. Before you book, you see your driver, the car and the price. For two or three days in the mountains, see the longer trips below.

Questions

Is the price per person or per car?
Per car, not per person. One fixed price covers the car, the driver, fuel and the drive back. A bigger group needs a bigger car, which has its own price, so choose a car with a seat for everyone.
Can we change the stops?
A tour's route is fixed, and its price covers that itinerary. If you want different stops, build your own route: the same drivers, and you see the price before you book.
Will the driver pick us up at our hotel?
Yes. The driver picks you up at your hotel or any address in Tbilisi and brings you back at the end of the day.
What isn't included?
Meals, entry tickets, wine tastings, cable cars and other activities are paid on the spot. The price covers the car, the driver, fuel, the planned stops and drinking water.
Which day trips work in winter?
Mtskheta, Uplistsikhe and Gori, David Gareja, Kakheti, and Borjomi with Vardzia run all year, and Gudauri and Bakuriani are ski days. In heavy snow the road to Kazbegi can close at short notice; if it does, we move the trip or refund it.
Can I cancel?
Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup. The full terms are in the cancellation policy.
